Salmon – Good Faith Medical Judgement: Idaho Physicians Speak

“Abortions have always been stigmatized, even before Dobbs, especially here in Idaho. Dobbs just made it worse. Suddenly doctors were asking, is this abortion? Am I going to jail for helping?” —Idaho Physician

This documentary-style stage production is built from interviews with Idaho physicians about practicing, and deciding whether to stay, amid Idaho’s current legal climate. Professional actors perform edited transcripts and original narration, illuminating how policy meets the exam room and how those decisions ripple through families and communities in Idaho.

The script is informed by “Change in Number of OB/GYN Physicians Practicing Obstetrics After the Dobbs Decision,” a JAMA Network Open research letter published July 31, 2025, which found that between August 2022 and December 2024 Idaho lost 35% of obstetric‑practicing OB/GYNs with just 23 obstetricians serving 569,000 Idahoans across 37 largely rural counties (McEachern, Taylor, Roman). The performance centers the lived experiences of providers who have remained as well as those who have left.

This production is funded in part through your generous donations during Idaho Gives, and in partnership with the Idaho Coalition for Safe Healthcare.
