Nearly 400 Attended UnHappy Hour!

The Sandpoint community came out in full force on April 16 to support doctors, nurses, and women in our community at our UnHappy Hour, an event organized to grieve the loss of labor and delivery services in the Sandpoint region.

Multiple media outlets covered the evening, and The Spokesman-Review provided a great summary.

There is power in community, and the answers to Sandpoint’s maternal care crisis were all in the room that evening. We WILL find our way forward together, creatively supporting pregnant women in the near term, and finding ways to change Idaho’s political landscape in the longterm, so that physicians are not forced to move, leaving North Idaho a maternity care desert.

Idaho’s anti-abortion laws affect ALL women, not just those seeking abortion care. All women will bear the impact of OBGYNs fleeing the state for places that won’t criminalize their work to care for women.

If you remove one pillar of women’s reproductive care, the whole enterprise crumbles. The Sandpoint community will rally to pick up the pieces as best it can — we are amazing in that way — but it’s going to take change on a state level before we return to the level of care we deserve.
