PBS reports, from Sandpoint, on the political climate that leaves Idaho women’s health at risk
The Pro-Voice Project worked with a PBS NewsHour crew recently in its reportage on Idaho’s anti-abortion laws and their impact on basic healthcare in Sandpoint and beyond. The news segment masterfully articulates the ripple effect of abortion bans through both the medical establishment and communities like Sandpoint. All women will be impacted by an exodus of OBGYNs, not just women in need of abortion care. And physicians, like our own Amelia Huntsberger, are rapidly departing, citing Idaho’s political climate as the reason. Poor outcomes will soon prevail. Maternal death rates are 62 percent higher in abortion-restricted states like Idaho than in states allowing access. You might just see yourself in the crowd at last month’s UnHappy Hour, an event that PBS describes as “a wake of sorts.”
