Pro-Voice happenings, including an April storytelling workshop
Thank you for supporting our stage production in January, as well as the overall fight for reproductive justice. It was heartening to see just how many people turned out on a cold winter day to engage on the topic of abortion. In North Idaho, no less! Hooray for us as a community.
But just as the fight for abortion access in Idaho has not gone away, neither has The Pro-Voice Project. We're still looking for ways to change the dialog on this issue and—hopefully, someday—change the laws. Work is underway to put on the production in Boise later this year. We also plan to have a presence at Sandpoint Pride.
In the meantime, though, we're organizing a half-day abortion storytelling workshop in Sandpoint for Saturday, April 22. This is a chance for area residents to bring their stories related to reproductive choice and put voice to them in a supportive space. We'll have several guides on hand to help people get to the heart of their stories, exploring the interconnection of vulnerability and strength. If you're interested, please send an email. And spread the word. All genders are welcome. More information will be made available upon request.
The workshop is free, though donations to support the cause are always appreciated.
And speaking of storytelling, be sure to listen to Dr. Amelia Huntsberger's tale on This American Life from several weeks ago (Dr. Huntsberger is a Sandpoint-based OB/GYN and spoke on our panel in January). While not specifically about the abortion experience—the theme is "When to Leave"—her story highlights the ripple effect that Idaho's punitive abortion laws have on all residents. Find it here: https://www.thisamericanlife.org/792/when-to-leave
Finally, Pro-Voice is looking to launch a social media campaign to reach more Idaho residents. If you are savvy in this realm and have an interest in implementing the plan—building our platform and/or occasionally posting content—reach out. Help would be most welcome.
Thank you, again, for your engagement and support. Thank you for being Pro-Voice.
